1. Where the ferry leaves from
The main departure point is the Seongsan Port passenger terminal, a few minutes from Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak). There is also a smaller service from Jongdal Port further north with fewer sailings. Arrive early in summer and on weekends — queues build up mid-morning.
2. Times and fares
From Seongsan, ferries typically run about every 30 minutes from morning until late afternoon, with the last boats back in the early evening; times shift with the season and weather. A round-trip adult ticket costs roughly ₩10,000–11,000. Sailings are cancelled in strong wind, so check the weather and the terminal notice board before you go.
3. ID and the boarding form
Korean ferries require passenger details. At the terminal, fill in a short boarding form (one for each direction) with your name, date of birth and phone number, then show your passport at the ticket counter. Keep your form and ID handy for the return trip.
4. Can I take my rental car?
Generally no. Visitor rental cars are restricted on Udo to protect the small roads, with exceptions for things like overnight hotel guests, young children, pregnant women and older travellers. Most people leave the car in the paid car park at Seongsan Port.
5. Getting around Udo
The island loop is about 17 km. Right by the Udo ferry dock you'll find rentals for electric bikes, scooters and small electric cars — you'll need your licence for motorised options. The hop-on hop-off tour bus is the easy choice if you don't want to drive.
Don't want to plan it yourself?
A guided east-coast day tour handles the ferry, tickets and transport and usually combines Udo with Seongsan Ilchulbong and Seopjikoji.
